Cloud Apps fastest growing entry point for cyber attacks

Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, DropBox, Salesforce, and other AI and
SaaS applications are now the primary target for credential theft, misconfiguration exploitation and shadow IT abuse.

Cloud app security is now an essential part of IT Security because it secures corporate data, prevents unauthorised access, and protects sensitive information across these SaaS platforms.

Cloud app breaches can happen when:

  • An employee attempts to upload or share a document containing credit card numbers to a cloud app
  • A user downloads sensitive attachments from Salesforce or OneDrive onto an unmanaged, personal device (like a borrowed laptop or a tablet) while allowing them to view the data in a browser
  • Employees use file sharing tools not approved/managed by the business

Having the right cloud app security as part of your overall protection will:

  • Scan files stored in cloud apps such as Google Drive, Dropbox or Microsoft OneDrive for sensitive information. The file may be flagged or the external sharing will be blocked.
  • Monitor user activity across cloud services to identify suspicious behavior or compromised accounts.
  • Discover unapproved third party cloud apps being used by employees.
  • Flag ‘impossible travel’ e.g. a user logs into Microsoft 365 from an office in Oxford and then logs into the same account from another country a few hours later.

As part of our IT Security wrap, we can discover unsactioned cloud apps, lock down risky configurations and stop identity misuse so attackers lose their easiest path to an attack. Have a chat with one of our experts about how to protect your cloud apps and cyber risks.
