The Big Switch Off – What it means for SMEs

Earlier this year, GHM reported that 46% of small businesses didn’t know that analogue and ISDN phone lines will be switched off in 2025.

Here is a quick guide to the options available for businesses yet to make the switch.

What is happening to the network and options available?

Over the years, fibre-optic cables have replaced PSTN copper cables. The technology that powers landline telephones in the UK will be switched off in 2025.

Businesses have been moving to (VoIP) through installed SIP Lines or moving to Cloud Telephony, which means no upfront costs and reduced costs as older equipment can be expensive to maintain and call costs no longer apply. Users can also see an improvement in call quality.

Businesses can also retain their existing number, and our Cloud solution allows users to use desk phones if preferred.

Will it be less dependable?

As voice requires only a small amount of data, modern internet connections manage them well. As mentioned above, businesses should not notice any drop in call quality.

What if there is a power cut?

If there is a power cut, it will mean no phone line. However, in critical industries we can install a backup power supply.
